We have learned that plants need sunlight, dirt and water to grow, but lets challenge what we have learned in the past. What about dirt do plants actually need? What is dirt?
Here is an example of a plant that is being grown without dirt. How is this done?

The process of growing plants with limited dirt and 98% less water is known as Aeroponics. We established in previous posts that plants receive their nutrients from the root system they have. The roots absorb the nutrients and spread it through the plant. What may shock you is that the plants themselves don't need soil to grow. They need what is in the soil.
Plants themselves actually primarily need the water, air and minerals that are in the soil. Those minerals however can be easily added to the roots of plants in a spray solution. Water can also be misted on frequently using a misting system. The picture of the plants above are pictures of aeroponic plants. These plants are known to grow faster and thicker due to the fact that they do not have to work as hard to get the nutrients they need.
The idea of aeroponics is taking off quickly! Along with the idea that we are able to produce more food in less time and in less space!
